HAIR LOSS

Hair loss is not an illness or a disease but is in fact a symptom. It is a sign that there is something on a deeper level that is not working optimally that is creating the outward symptom of loss of hair.

I was blessed with lots of hair and you do not really miss something until it starts to go.
About 4 years ago I developed alopecia.

The patches were huge and probably accounted for loss of 50% of my hair. I realised then that something I took for granted and that didn’t hurt could cause so much distress and anguish.

I now have complete regrowth and so can vouch first hand that it can be done provided we do a few things first.

Anuja has had personal experience with alopecia

  8. Hydration

Hair loss is not an illness or a disease but is in fact a symptom. It is a sign that there is something on a deeper level that is not working optimally that is creating the outward symptom of loss of hair. Weak nails, dull skin are also similar indicators. In order to fix our problem with hair loss it is therefore important we address it from 2 angles – of course the external products we are using on the hair and the scalp but also the internal state of our health.

ANUJA’S APPROACH

Hair is the by-product of good bone health according to Ayurveda and without optimal nutrition we can not have optimal by products of the different dhatus. Ayurveda understands premature hair loss and greying to be signs of pitta imbalance. Which can be correlated to metabolism and endocrine function in the body. As mentioned the thyroid gland, stress, sex hormones can all be involved at creating this dynamic. With a constitutional assessment we can understand which of the doshas are imbalanced in your specific situation and how to work on creating harmony and balance for you. We work with internal and external treatments to support the healthy hair growth.

FERTILITY

During my Ayurveda degree I specialised in fertility. I was at an age where I was going to be married and start a family. I was in awe of the Ayurvedic wisdom and felt modern science was so far behind in the understanding of fertility.

It is estimated that 1 in 6 couples in the UK are struggling with conception, whilst 1 in 5 pregnancies may end in a miscarriage.

The sadness and pain that accompanies difficulties in conception and miscarriage are carried with women and their partners for a long time and often so close to their hearts it is painful to discuss with others.

During my Ayurveda degree I specialised in fertility. I was at an age where I was going to be married and start a family. I was in awe of the Ayurvedic wisdom and felt modern science was so far behind in the understanding of fertility. There were so many things we could do to support pregnancy before we left it to the will of God and I will share those with you here. I myself went through the entire Vedic protocol from the rituals, to the herbs, astrology, fasts and diet. The process itself is so beautiful it takes the pressure away from conception and leaves us healthy and balanced.

According to the Ayurvedic texts the husband and wife begin to prepare for conception a year in advance of the actual date of conception. The time is take for the male and the female to both rebalance their doshas and to ensure they are of optimal health. The male as the seed giver and the woman as the recipient who will nurture and support the growth of the fetus for 9 months. The year is divided into 2 phases. The first is when any health issues within the body are addressed and the second is 3 months before conception when the focus is on ‘rasayana’ or tonics for the ovum and sperm. Science now supports that an egg takes around 3 months to mature so the recommendation is to start to prepare at least 3 months prior to conception.

WHAT TO ADDRESS TO HELP SUPPORT CONCEPTION

  1. Gut Health
Having a healthy gut is key on so many levels when approaching conception.

  2. Toxins
One of the key drivers for poor quality sperm and egg is toxicity.

  3. Stress
We are living in a very stressful world and my pitta friends I know you thrive on the stress and fast paced life but what you may experience as ‘buzz,’ a thrill and feeling of achievement maybe wearing out your body.

  4. Hormones
Hormonal balance is key to acceptance and then maintenance of a pregnancy full term.

ANUJA’S APPROACH

Once the areas of the body are all assessed and the areas above are in good working order we can work on nourishing and rejeuventating the body. The Ayurvedic texts have a detailed outline of foods that are eaten during this period as well as herbal tonics to support a healthy ovum and sperm.

In clinic I suggest self care programs which include ayurvedic oil massages and daily rituals of herbal preparations and foods. For those interested Vedic rituals and mantras are also offered. Conception in the vedas is a sacred act where we are calling upon the next generation. The mood at time of conception is thought to influence the nature of the soul that enters the mothers womb. A detailed explanation of astrological alignments, days of the monthly cycle are explained to ensure a healthy conception. Astrology is also used to offer advice about times to avoid that maybe unsuccessful for the couple.

It is very common for young women to be diagnosed in their late teens when they start to notice the onset of symptoms. These can include a range of presentations including but not limited to:
Hair loss, oily skin and acne, excess weight, infertility, hirsutism

ANUJA’S APPROACH

Ayurveda understands PCOS to be a Kapha (earth and water) dominant dynamic which disrupts the natural function of Vata (air and ether) and Pitta (fire and water.)
Insulin resistance, estrogen dominance, hypothyroid function can all be considered Kapha imbalance conditions. By balancing the doshas specifically that are creating the imbalances in your unique condition can help you to regain control and health.

Ensuring the doshas are balanced, digestion is optimal is key. Once food is well digested it forms ahara rasa of which blood flow (artava) is said to be a by-product. Without good digestion our menstrual cycles will be affected.
